Entries for Belfast City Council’s Parks Photo Competition have been boosted by mobile technology as entrants take even more opportunities to capture beautiful, quirky or fun pictures in our city parks.

Technology means entrants can capture pictures in a moment and more and more people are using it to capture exciting and artistic photos for the competition which attracts entries from Belfast and beyond.

This year the Parks Photo Competition celebrates its 10th anniversary and to celebrate, a prize presentation took place at Malone House where the winning photographs were on display. They will also be used by the council for future communications and publications.

Alderman Tommy Sandford, Chair of the People and Communities Committee, said: “I was as impressed as the judges by the wonderful photos that were submitted and am sorry that we can’t get to display each and every one.

“Today’s successes are the most outstanding in each of the four categories and I want to congratulate everyone who has won,” he added.

The annual competition is sponsored by John McQuillan (Contracts) Ltd who provided the prize money and this year for the first time Jessops Belfast provided canvases of each of the winning images and a photography workshop for each of the four category winners.

In the ever popular under 16’s category the overall winner was Abi Lopes from the south of the city, but east Belfast siblings Robbie and Amy Cooper celebrated together after taking second and third place.

Our new category Summertime in Parks was won by Tara O Brien from Hillsborough, while entries by Antrim residents William Allen and Malcolm Moorehead took second and third place.

Active Parks was won by Belfast man Niall Boyle; second place was taken by Angus White also from Belfast and Dunmurry resident Aoife Britten took third prize.

Carrickfergus woman, Grace Hamilton, won the Park Landscapes title while Belfast residents Paul Elliot and Colin White were the runners-up.
