Just weeks after Home Secretary Jackie Smith is found to have claimed over £100,000 in
expenses by claiming that her family home was in fact a secondary home, she
has hit the headlines again in the national press, for allegedly claiming for pornographic films her husband watched at this secondary home.
Is the nation demanding her resignation merely because her husband was watching or
intending to watch pornographic films? No. The nation is furious that at a time when her government is demanding and whipping up a frenzy against others, such as Sir Fred Goodwin for claiming
excessively, she is found to be claiming for elicit and unwarranted expenses which even under parliament's very liberal rules, she has no claim to.
As the nation once again goes for bust under a Labour government it would appear that Ministers within this government claim every last penny they believe they are entitled to, or as in this case even more!
It is at last very clear to this nation, that as many go bankrupt , as many lose their homes, as many freeze not able to afford to heat and eat, the very people who form our government are living to excess. It would appear that in the case of Jackie Smith she claimed expenses or her share of expenses right down to the simplest of services, even claiming for a bath plug at under £1.
Simply Belfast has only one demand - that Jackie Smith and her New Labour Minister colleague
Tony McNulty are thrown out of office for what many consider a betrayal of the British people
as they struggle through economic conditions partly caused by these
very people. In time Simply Belfast rely on the voters in their constituencies to add both of them on the dole queues which they helped create.
Simply Belfast ask you the question, if it was you and not a
Labour Minister such as Peter Hain that failed to report your
finances as the rules dictate, would you be in court by now? If it
was you and not a Labour Minister who reported your family home as
your second home, to a wing of government such as Social Services or
Pension Credit, would you be in court by now or in the local paper
named and shamed? If it was you that failed to negotiate the pension
of a chief executive officer you bank you had all but taken over,
would you have been sacked by now? If it was you that had claimed
under rules for a house your parents live in, rules meant for politicians
who have to travel excessively, would you be out on your ear,
whether you were technically able to claim or not? Yes you would and
it's time the these people were gone!
Many readers on the Simply Belfast site, will be aware that if one or two high profile ministers are claiming expenses that the British people believe to be immoral, then there is bound to be many more.
Simply Belfast hopes that none of our politicians are involved in the same sorts of claims - only full disclosure of expenses will tell.
