East Belfast MP Peter Robinson (59) having been elected the new leader of the Democratic Unionist Party when Ian Paisley steps down has taken up his new post. 
The Rev Ian Paisley's last day as DUP leader was the 31st May 2008, with his last day as First Minister being the 4th June 2008.

The new deputy leader of the DUP North Belfast MP Nigel Dodds has also taken up post.

Despite threats from SF to derail Peter Robinson becoming the new First Minister, he was duly nominated by the Rev Paisley on the 5th June in a sitting of the assembly and as SF nominated their deputy the proceeding were carried.
